Discovery Field Trip: Visit to a Mississauga Firestation

This month our Discovery Field Trip momstown Mississauga took the kids to visit a Firestation 103. We were given a tour of the station to see where the firefighters live and work. The kids were shown the truck, all the various equipment and we got to watch a firefighter get all suited up to go out on a call. By the end he wasn’t recognizable when he was wearing all 70lbs of gear, so it was a good lesson for the kids in case they ever need rescuing during a real emergency - there is a real person inside that suit!

Did you know that firefighters keep their pants set up with their boots inside? This allows them to step into the boots, and pull up their pants in one seamless motion. What a fabulous idea for moms to implement that into the morning routine this winter with snow pants.  During the morning rush to school it can be very  frustrating pulling those snow pants on with the boots!

This was an exciting outing. Many of our kids were quite young however it is never too early to talk about fire safety.  Preschoolers can learn to stop, drop and roll in case of fire, and it is one lesson when practised in a fun and engaging manner they will never forget.

Each month at momstown we take our kids on a different  field trip to learn and discover a new experience.  We have so many other exciting events and programs coming up in October, including a mom’s night out rollerskating, our Little Scientists, Art & Play, Tales for Tots by Scholastic Canada, a special Nutella Buddies Brunch and our very own Fisher Price Halloween Boo Bash! Sign up for these events and more on your free4-week trial!
